Since 1868, our fraternal benefit society has been committed to meeting the spiritual, social, educational, and financial needs of Catholics and their families. You and your fellow CFLI leaders have a big part to play in our continuing success and for this reason I wish to share exciting news with you.

After careful review and deliberations, the boards of directors of both Catholic Family and Catholic Knights approved moving forward with merger discussions. On July 31, 2009, a formal letter of intent to merge was signed between our two innovative and influential Catholic organizations. This merger will unite Catholic Family, the nation’s oldest, and Catholic Knights, one of the largest, into a fraternal force that will enhance the lives of 120,000 Catholics living in 27 states.

Catholic Knights, founded in 1885, is headquartered in downtown Milwaukee. Our two societies have worked together over the years on many fraternal projects and appreciate each other’s contributions to the Catholic faith and the fraternal movement. The next step in the process is to negotiate a merger agreement. We anticipate merger talks will result in a signed agreement no later than December 1, 2009. During the first quarter of 2010 delegates from both societies will vote by mail on the merger.

We are excited by this opportunity. The savings achieved through this merger will result in increased profitability that will enhance dividends and member benefits. Our community and parish outreach will expand greatly as well. Coming together at this time will allow us both to shape our fraternal future. Please take a few moments to review the information at our website, including the “Questions and Answers” section. These will explain the proposed merger in greater detail.

On behalf of the senior management team and the board of directors, I wish to thank you for your continued confidence. Together we will enrich the lives of more Catholic families tomorrow than we do today.

President & CEO
