1st Place "Faithful Citizenship" Essay
(Grades 6-8 Category)

A faithful citizen is known by the fruit he bears. I know what is written in his heart by his actions. For he is not ignorant, but educated. He does not loaf but instead is productive, and contributes his time and talents whenever they are needed. I feel his friendliness and peaceful spirit when I look in his eyes, and see his smile.

He is thankful for every kind gesture and appreciates all he has. I know this because he thanks me and takes care of his possessions. I know he honors God because he loves his neighbors as himself. He lives for others and is filled with joy in doing so. I know his view of value for other people by the way he treats his family. For he is consistent and remains the same no matter whom he’s with.

In the workplace he is described as a loyal employee. Even though he has a high position, he treats others as an equal. This positive role model sets the example for others. This even inspires those around him to mirror this work ethic. This is how he bears fruit because his goodness becomes contagious and affects others in a positive way. As it is said in Matthew 7:16: “By their fruits you will easily recognize him.” Matthew 7:18: “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor a poisonous tree good fruit.”

This is what a faithful citizen is to me.
